2. Accommodation and local transport
Sledge and Randombird are staying at http://www.squarephillips.com/ downtown, expecting to use the Metro to get to/from the venue. The venue is on the Green (Verte) line at Pie-IX, and the hotel is a few minutes' walk from McGill, also on the Green line.
The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has an Oyster-like card called Opus, which looks worthwhile picking up in town. A weekly pass is 25.75 CAD for unlimited travel for a Monday to Sunday (inclusive), with some restrictions. It does include the P.-E. Trudeau/Downtown airport shuttle (747).
3. Travel to/from Montréal
Probably the only viable option is to fly, but someone is bound to want a road trip.

4. Entry requirements
No visa required for UK passport holders. Instead fill in an Electronic Travel Authorisation Form. It's probably wise to have at least six months passport validity at the time of entry.
