Debian badges will be supplied to everyone on the stand as the official ones this year don't even have our names on them! Make sure your name is listed above and it'll be ready for you at the Debian stand. Not only do they have your name and e-mail address so people get grep-dctrl you when they get home, I've added IRC nickname like at Debconf (put it in Nick above) and a line for your noteworthy packages or job. Contact Keybuk if you've a particular suggestion for what to put here.

Note: you still need to either register at the website, or obtain an Exhibitor's Pass from Brian Teeman. You can't get in and to the Debian stand without one!

Stand

We don't know what the stand will actually look like. Brian was playing with various ideas for the .Org village based on the proviso that sight-lines have to be maintained across the area and everyone has to look equal <wink>.

That said, we do know where the .Org village and where Debian will be within it:

Draft-v0.1

OLYMPIA 2 Main Floor (Entrance Floor) Back Left

  | ______________________ __________..
  | | | |

  : : : :

The .ORG Village has moved (was going to be at the Back Right). Now at the Back-Left, on the Main Floor, next to the goods door you come through for setting up.

Redmond are going to be right next to the Village!
Looks like they have pulled out now. (The wifi signal should be even stronger... )

Brian says. "There should be some form of wireless internet in the .Org Village. (possibly a vsat link) trying to finalise details on the week of September 15th"

The .ORG stand is composed of three sections:

   5m * 7m (4 sides)
   5m * 7m (4 sides)
   2m * 5m (2 sides)

The .ORG extension (".ORG3") wasn't on offer to Debian as Debian would just end up taking over 100% of it. There are about 20people/groups that need fitting in, I missed some on the phone to Brian, but I think they include:

Community Wireless, Dasher, Debian, Dyne:bolic (Distro?), KDE,
LPI, Lonix/GLLUG, M-Station, Mailscanner, Mambo, OpenOffice,
Rosegarden, Scribus, UKFSN, UKUUG, OpenBSD, AFFS, CDR, Others.

Out of the areas on offer, the Bottom-Left corner seemed the best for Debian--which will be the biggest stand on in it. This gives Debian two corridors to fill with people--one of which is the side wall and so there isn't going to be a problem with blocking other [paying] stands.

  • Find out Layout/Tables-required from Brian Teeman

    • Brian says "Approx 5m long counter, 0.5m deep"
    • Brian says "You have plenty of space - dont worry about that."
    • Brian says "Counters wil be provided but Steve's shelves may be of use."

Activities

Things we have done at our stand in previous years, to help plan what stuff would be useful to bring:

  • Chat to the punters about Free software and why Debian rocks in a non-biased way.
  • Sell stuff, then give them free-beer (see: stuff to buy first)

  • Show off lots of weird (and not so weird) hardware running Debian.
  • Boast about being the biggest GNU/Linux distro to show up(!)

Also see the:

"Dress Code"

As usual there isn't an enforced dress code, however the black polo shirts should turn out really smart-looking and if you want to wear one that'd be great! You can either buy one (or more) or just wear one for the days you're on the stand and give it back afterwards.

It is reckoned that Black Jeans or trousers often go well with the above and these are suggested if you are wondering what to wear.

(The ulterior motive for many of us "dressing a bit smarter" this year is not only El Reg's comments about the Birmingham Expo, but many of us are whoring for employment :p)

Sellables or stand equipment being bought

SteveMcIntyre/John:

  • 100 woody i386 DVDs (r0 plus update CD)
  • 300 woody i386 CDs (r1)
  • 50 Morphix

SteveMcIntyre:

  • 15 each of M, L, XL and XXL Black polo shirts with embroidered logo
  • 30 each of M, L, XL and XXL Grey screen-printed Debian classic t-shirt
  • Couple of sheets of 20mm*20mm PeeCee case badges

Paul Sladen:

Wookey:

Scott James Remnant:

  • Debian "card" sign from Birmingham Expo
  • Various A4 laminated (I hope) posters for prices and what's on the stand
  • Badges

TODO

Things _you_ need TODO

Possibilites:

  • Little "download the source here" stickers/labels for the CD's
  • Flyers bragging about Debian

Things _me_ (Paul Sladen) needs TODO

  • Pickup the smaller signs from UKLinux in Stockport and Debianise them

Miscellaneous Questions

  • How to get exhibitors' passen?

    • Brian says "Exhibitor passes should be being sent directly to me. If you need one please email me."
      • (everyone who's asked so far should've received one)
  • Whose mobile to ring when we get stuck?

    • Brian Teeman 07989-584-668
    • Steve McIntyre 07775-786-572

    • Scott James Remnant 07855-349-607 (Tuesday set-up)
  • Car-passes and parking arrangements? (Getting in is impossible otherwise)

    • Brian says "Car park passes for setup only should be being sent directly to me. If you need one please email me."
    • Parking at rear of Olympia costs 20GBP last year and closed at 11pm on Tuesday and Thursday, but 7pm ish on the Wednesday
    • Brian says "You can book advance car parking tickets for during the show with ECO Car PArks on 0800 056 8444"

Accommodation

It's London, it's all expensive. Here's a vox-pop:

  • Paul Sladen suggests: find some floorspace, it's cheaper.
  • Paul Cupis suggests: http://www.hoteloholic.co.uk/index1.asp?area=Earls%20Court

  • Paul Cupis suggests: Travel Lodge ( <80.00ukp/night)

  • Phil Hands suggests: Paragon (225.00ukp/night, "Earls Court Show discount?")
  • Steve McIntyre is staying at http://www.amsterdamhotel.activehotels.com/ (58.00ukp/night)

  • Scott James Remnant is also saying at the AmsterdamHotel

  • Dafydd Harries suggests: Holland House Youth Hostel (39.00ukp/night in 2000)
  • Julian Gilbey suggests: Cromwell Crown Hotel, near Gloucester Road Tube station, single basic room for 30.00ukp/night, very basic but cheap
