1. Being an Earthling
Contrary to how it might seem, being an earthling is not primarily about geekery, though an awareness and understanding of geek attitudes and behaviour is probably quite helpful for being one. Apart from the domain name, the primary focus is on social meets (pubmeets and the annual birthday dinner in London, mostly), at which conversation tends to vary wildly and is actually only rarely about techie stuff.
There are various "subgroups" of earthlings who discuss or organise things of interest to them; things like interesting books (although the mailing list for this has been dead for a while) and hill-walking, and on the geeky side, http://www.earth.li/projectpurple/.
