Background
Dante is the son of Constantin and Gianna de Almedia. His father was a renowned scholar and his mother was an ordained Ash sorceror. His father was very reclusive and itw as his mother who was more well known on the social scene. Constantin died some time ago from a sudden illness with no known cure, magical or otherwise. Gianna was devastated and withdrew immediately to a smaller home some distance from the White City. Her grief clouded her judgement and she used her magic to travel to the burned lands to find and bring back her husband.
She succeeded and her husband came back to her for some time as a ghost. Their happiness didn't last long though. Long enough for a child to be conceived but as was inevitable the servants of the Burned Lords came and found them. Her husband was taken from her again but she begged the Burned Lords for leniency on her newborn child, Dante, and for reasons best known to them they allowed the child to live. Gianna, fir her sins, was cursed to never die.
Gianna returned to the White City a few years later. She became a reclusive woman, rarely appearing at any social events in the White City, even purely family gatherings. Her son was bought up as a noble and taught all that a noble should. As far as everybody was concerned Dante had been conceived shortly before Constantin's death and nobody in white city knew any better.
Dante though knew that he was different. From an early age he had strange dreams of the Burned Lands and as he grew older the dreams came occasionally when he was awake. Spurred on by his dreams he decided to learn more of the places he saw in his dreams. He started his research in his father's library, untouched since his death. He found some of what he wanted to know but not the true answers. He then turned to his mother. He knew that she had once been an Ash Sorceror but had not practiced any magic in his lifetime. At first she refused to help him. But over time as he became more insistent and told her of the dreams she agreed to teach him some of what she knew.
He was afraid to go to the priests since he was sure that this was not normal and was worried about what their repsonse would be. He therefore learnt in secret from his mother who taught him some of what she knew of the Burned Lands and ash magic.
As he learnt more the dreams and visions died down and became less problematic and focussed less on the Burned Lands. They would still come but no longer randomly. As he heard rumours of goings on in the land he realised that some of the visions he saw were about the goings on in the land. He had seen signs and portents of the activity of necromancers and others. He was unsure what it meant though and so stayed silent, not revealing this information to any, inlcuding his mother who he now suspected might know more of his conenction to the burned lands and necromantic activities than she let on.
Still unaware of what caused his visions and his strangeness Dante resolved to try to get out and travel more to see if the answer to his questions lay outside of the library.
