'''Adventure 1 - The Spider and the Fly'''

Dante sets off on his first adventure, hired by Nadia-Caterina, one of his relatives. Along with a group of others, including Shenya Cristofori and a weaver called Morgock, they set out to try to find out what was causing problems that the spiders were having. After some travel, they were set upon by wolves. The group fought well together but Dante was a little nervous on his first fight against things that were truly trying to kill him. His armour was damaged but nothing more serious than that happened.

Once they arrived at the city of Silk the group split up to ask questions. Dante went to see his relatives in the city and spoke to the head of the family there, [alano or something like that I think]. He said that silk deliveries were delayed but that he didn't think it was a large problem and not worth a group of adventurers investigating. Dante persuaded him that they were there and had been paid now so would investigate anyway, whereupon he agreed and offered them board for the night as well as a map and some supplies.

After travelling further into the forest they found the spider queen of the seven legs tribe. They were told that a group of men bearing the colours of the white city had moved into their territory. Dante and his party were worried and agreed to go and investigate further and found the group that had been referred to. Their strange manner of speech soon revealed them to be part of the swarm, a very intelligent hive mind creature made up of millions of flies.

After talking to them it turned out that they were there waiting for a diplomat from the white city, an ambassador to the swarm. The swarm had chosen that location to wait since it was close to a river and a cave, both of which were needed by them. The group were unaware of the fate of the ambassador at this point though it would later turn out that he was being held prisoner by the spiders of the seven legs tribe.

On the way to search for more information the party were once again attacked by spiders. Arik Blackthrone was badly hurt by them but fortunately was able to be restored to health by some healing potions and some first aid. Unfortunately after he then took a healing potion, having previosuly claimed to have none, things took a turn for the worse. A lot of argument ensued. Sebastian and Shenya in particular were very upset though Dante and Morgock less so. In the end Arik was rendered unconscious and his pockets turned out, many potions being found. There was a high level of distrust in the part after this.

The group then went to look for a suitable place for them to wait. Their map revealed three likely locations and they chose to explore each in turn. Brother Jara had been partly infected by the Swarm such that they were able to see out of his eyes so would know when a suitable location had been found. The first location was inhabited by a small dragon. Shenya boldly approached but as it breathed fire Dante received a sudden vivid vision of the death that would await them all if they didn't retreat. Shenya was reluctant to back off but given the state of her blackened and damaged armour she decided that discretion was the order of the day.

The next location was occupied by Children of the vine having a party. The cave was clearly not viable but by the time they had realised this it was too late for them to retreate without causing offence. In the end some of the party enjoyed themselves more than others but all had to give a little something, most often blood, before retreating.

The last cave was home to a few bears but it was decided that they could be turned out for the good of the mission. Dante felt some guilt over it but it was necessary for the greater good and death was not necessarily a bad thing for anything. After the bears had been killed it seemed that some nearby wolves had decided that the cave was now free to be occupied and attempted to do so. They too were fought off though and then the swarm arrived in their new home.

True to their word, once the swarm were out of the territory of the spiders they released their prisoner, the diplomat, and he travelled down to join the swarm. He was consumed by them and became part of them. He took some time to adjust to his new position but after he did assured the group that he was fine and ready to start to get a better understanding between the two groups.

The journey home was simple. When they stopped in the city of silk Dante relayed the news of what had happened to his family there and offered to relay messages relaying disappointment that they had not been kept informed of happenings. On returning to the White City it turned out that the family there knew little of what was going on. Initially they were somewhat hostile towards Dante for the potential damage that their mission may have caused until he persuaded them that not only was he not the one to blame but also that this represented a potential business opportunity.

His family, either as a punishment or as a genuine opportunity, gave Dante the responsibility for liasing with the Swarm and furthering the families interests with respect to it.

This is a page that currently just holds my new FLRP character along with an XP log and so on.

Background

Dante is the son of Constantin and Gianna de Almedia. His father was a renowned scholar and his mother was an ordained Ash sorceror. His father was very reclusive and itw as his mother who was more well known on the social scene. Constantin died some time ago from a sudden illness with no known cure, magical or otherwise. Gianna was devastated and withdrew immediately to a smaller home some distance from the White City. Her grief clouded her judgement and she used her magic to travel to the burned lands to find and bring back her husband.

She succeeded and her husband came back to her for some time as a ghost. Their happiness didn't last long though. Long enough for a child to be conceived but as was inevitable the servants of the Burned Lords came and found them. Her husband was taken from her again but she begged the Burned Lords for leniency on her newborn child, Dante, and for reasons best known to them they allowed the child to live. Gianna, fir her sins, was cursed to never die.

Gianna returned to the White City a few years later. She became a reclusive woman, rarely appearing at any social events in the White City, even purely family gatherings. Her son was bought up as a noble and taught all that a noble should. As far as everybody was concerned Dante had been conceived shortly before Constantin's death and nobody in white city knew any better.

Dante though knew that he was different. From an early age he had strange dreams of the Burned Lands and as he grew older the dreams came occasionally when he was awake. Spurred on by his dreams he decided to learn more of the places he saw in his dreams. He started his research in his father's library, untouched since his death. He found some of what he wanted to know but not the true answers. He then turned to his mother. He knew that she had once been an Ash Sorceror but had not practiced any magic in his lifetime. At first she refused to help him. But over time as he became more insistent and told her of the dreams she agreed to teach him some of what she knew.

He was afraid to go to the priests since he was sure that this was not normal and was worried about what their repsonse would be. He therefore learnt in secret from his mother who taught him some of what she knew of the Burned Lands and ash magic.

As he learnt more the dreams and visions died down and became less problematic and focussed less on the Burned Lands. They would still come but no longer randomly. As he heard rumours of goings on in the land he realised that some of the visions he saw were about the goings on in the land. He had seen signs and portents of the activity of necromancers and others. He was unsure what it meant though and so stayed silent, not revealing this information to any, inlcuding his mother who he now suspected might know more of his conenction to the burned lands and necromantic activities than she let on.

Still unaware of what caused his visions and his strangeness Dante resolved to try to get out and travel more to see if the answer to his questions lay outside of the library.
