= Plan for 4.2 = There are currently verified Debian packages which are mostly correct of 4.2 RC1 (aka 4.1.99.1) on http://people.debian.org/~madkiss/4.1.99.1/ and http://the.earth.li/~huggie/xfce4/ Use at your own risk. The plan as I see it is to upload these to experimental and point people at them. Then we can put them in unstable after sarge releases. It's ''possible'' we'll release sarge with 4.2 but very unlikely unless sarge doesn't freeze until January ish I guess given current upstream release plans. xfce4-goodies are a mess and need sorting out. Sadly I think for 4.0.x they'll ship as they are. == Outstanding issues with the 4.2 packages == * Madkiss' xfdesktop package doesn't quite work as expected partly due to an upstream bug and partly benny's menu-method stuff. This is ''fixed'' by me in my version -2 on my site. I need Madkiss to sign off on it though. * Few debianisation issues persist (changing things like mozilla to sensible-browser etc in the panel) * Madkiss' xfce4-mcs-plugins package is compiled against the wrong package name of library on people.debian.org (a simple recompile fixes this). |

Because buildds are broken and don't check build-depends and do dep-wait stuff automagically the plan to get this into unstable is to upload in 5 stages (yes, 5 *sigh*) with the stuff in bold with urgency=high. | Because buildds are broken and don't check versioned build-depends and do dep-wait stuff automagically the plan to get this into unstable is to upload in 5 stages (yes, 5 *sigh*) with the stuff in bold with urgency=high. |

1. Debian packaging of xfce4
This is probably really dull for anyone except SimonHuggins and to an extent DanielSilverstone.
2. Plan for 4.2
There are currently verified Debian packages which are mostly correct of 4.2 RC1 (aka 4.1.99.1) on http://people.debian.org/~madkiss/4.1.99.1/ and http://the.earth.li/~huggie/xfce4/
Use at your own risk.
The plan as I see it is to upload these to experimental and point people at them. Then we can put them in unstable after sarge releases. It's possible we'll release sarge with 4.2 but very unlikely unless sarge doesn't freeze until January ish I guess given current upstream release plans.
xfce4-goodies are a mess and need sorting out. Sadly I think for 4.0.x they'll ship as they are.
2.1. Outstanding issues with the 4.2 packages
Madkiss' xfdesktop package doesn't quite work as expected partly due to an upstream bug and partly benny's menu-method stuff. This is fixed by me in my version -2 on my site. I need Madkiss to sign off on it though.
- Few debianisation issues persist (changing things like mozilla to sensible-browser etc in the panel)
- Madkiss' xfce4-mcs-plugins package is compiled against the wrong package name of library on people.debian.org (a simple recompile fixes this).
3. Build Order
xfce4 build order with build-depends:
Also see: http://people.debian.org/~igloo/status.php?email=huggie%40earth.li
The lovely tick is to be used when we're uploading in stages and want to track issues.
- gtk2-engines-xfce
libxfce4util
libxfcegui4
libxfce4mcs
- xfce4-appfinder
xfce-mcs-manager
- xfce4-session
- xfce-mcs-plugins
- xfce4-iconbox
- xfce4-utils
- xffm4
- xfprint4
- xfwm4
- xfcalendar
xfce4-panel
- xfdesktop4
- xfce4-mixer
- xfce4-systray
- xfce4-themes
- xfce4-toys
- xfce4-trigger-launcher
Because buildds are broken and don't check versioned build-depends and do dep-wait stuff automagically the plan to get this into unstable is to upload in 5 stages (yes, 5 *sigh*) with the stuff in bold with urgency=high.
4. Bugs
Never ending task:
- general triage
5. Misc
5.1. xfce4-goodies
These are xfce4-artwork xfce4-battery-plugin xfce4-clipman-plugin xfce4-datetime-plugin xfce4-diskperf-plugin xfce4-minicmd-plugin xfce4-netload-plugin xfce4-notes-plugin xfce4-showdesktop-plugin xfce4-systemload-plugin
Bugs for ITA are 224558,59,60,61,62,65,66,67,68,69 and (merged with) 245114,15,16,17,18,21,22,23,24,26.
Mail sent to Rudy Godoy and the bugs asking about these. No movement since April.
Rudy's made packages but we need to get these uploaded. I'll start my delicate persuasion again I think :)
