DebConf19 will be held in the Central Campus of Paraná Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (UTFPR), Curitiba, 20th → 27th July 2019.

DebCamp is from Sunday, 14th July to Friday 19th July, 2019.

Registration is open and the confirmation deadline is 2019-07-01 (bursary application deadline 2019-03-31).

Probably the only viable option is to fly, but someone is bound to want a road trip.

3.1.1. Heathrow strike action

Unite has announced strikes by customer service, engineering and security staff over the weekend of 26/27th July (Heathrow's busiest).

4. Entry requirements

British nationals can normally enter Brazil without a visa as a tourist. Passports should be valid for a minimum of six months from the date of entry.

Yellow fever risk area has been extended to include Curitiba. An inoculation certificate is not mandatory for entry but strongly advised for exit again afterwards.

Carrying of photographic ID is mandatory at all times (though not necessarily a passport).

An entry/exit card will be issued at the border and must be kept for exit. There are fines and hassle for losing it. It is permitted to print and complete the form in advance to save time at the border. Instructions for completion (translation down the page).

5. Customs

According to the conference organisers:

• Up to 5 kg of cheese may be imported, per person.
• Up to 10 kg of meat products (e.g. sausage and ham).
• Up to 12L of wine and beer per person (but not exceeding 500 USD).

In any case, over US$500 of anything must be declared and taxed.

Border authorities are known to require visitors to register any new electronic equipment they bring in, even for personal use, to ensure it leaves again.
