Notes

Use the Days column to indicate which days you'll be there (i.e. Mon-Thur if you're turning up to set up on Monday evening, and are in for the duration).

  • What's the situation regarding getting in Early for Setup

The stand will be ready for setup on Monday from 08:00 to 22:00

The .org stand is a proper stand (i.e. not a shell stand) with a counter all the way round a 10mx10m square, divided into segments of about 2m each by chest-height dividers. There is a curtain on the back of the counter to hide 'stuff' and a socket in there too. Thus there is display space on the front of the stand, on the dividers and possibly on the central section.

The man organising the .org section is Brian @ uklinux.net 0870 740 6575

He'll do his best to see we get as much space as possible but unless there are no-shows we are going to be stuck with about 2m of desk like everyone else.

We've been told to 'keep the stand tidy' (i.e. without piles of crap lying around).

Activities

Things we have done at our stand in previous years, to help plan what stuff would be useful to bring:

  • Chat to the punters about free software.
  • Show off lots of weird (and not so weird) hardware running Debian.
  • Sell Debian T-shirts.
  • Sell prepressed i386 binary and source CDs.
  • Sell burned-to-order CD-Rs for other archs.
  • Have fun!

See the [http://www.debian.org/events/checklist Debian.Org checklist].

Getting to the NEC

The NEC is extremely easy to get to by any means of travel you can think of.

By Road

The NEC complex is adjacent to Birmingham International Airport, M42 Junction 6.

From Birmingham City Centre, take the A45 Coventry Road to the NEC complex.

There is free car parking for all exhibitors. A car parking permit is required and should be collected from the orgranisers office

By Rail

There is a connecting bridge from Birmingham International train station. This station is on the main London to Birmingham line. Half-hourly Intercity trains are available from London, Birmingham and Wolverhampton. Virgin also run a large number of Voyager services from all over the country, a large number of which stop at this station.

There is also a half-hourly local service from Wolverhampton to Coventry which also stops at Birmingham International.

By Air

Take the monorail from Birmingham International Airport (BHX) to the train station and the NEC complex.

By Boat

The NEC is a short bus ride from many mooring points on the Grand Union Canal :-)

Accommodation

There are several fairly expensive hotels around the NEC complex.

For those on a budget, the [http://www.ibishotel.com/ Ibis] hotels in the city centre are better value for money from 25GBP to 60GBP per night. For those with a car, the [http://www.ibishotel.com/ibis/fichehotel/gb/ibi/2178/fiche_hotel.shtml Ibis Bordesley] is especially recommended as to get to the NEC you just drive down the A45.

There are also Holiday Inns, Comfort Inns, Traveloges and the like in Birmingham City Centre that are cheaper than their NEC complex counterparts.

Scott James Remnant (scott@netsplit.com) is able to offer some crash space, and more usefully storage of any large or expensive equipment if somebody else can provide a car to take it all to the NEC (I don't drive). House is roughly 10 mins to the NEC by car, and 15 mins by local train. Crash space is limited to floor only (it's only a small house) so sleeping bag will be required, and make sure you're not allergic to dogs)

Notes

There may be a BBQ at Scott's house if the weather turns out to be fine, everyone interested sticks a £5 in the kitty, someone with a car goes to Asda to get the food (oh, and someone brings a BBQ or we get a cheapo/one-time one from Asda)
